Thomas J. Monahan
Thomas J. Monahan, a
founding member of the firm, is a graduate of the College of the
Holy Cross (B.S), the University of Connecticut (M.S.; Ph.D.), and Franklin Pierce Law
Center (J.D.). He is a member of the Bar of the State of Connecticut
and admitted to practice before the United States Patent and
Trademark Office. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Monahan
was a faculty member of Rutgers University, Patent Counsel in the
Agricultural Division of American Cyanamid Co., Vice President for
Research at University Genetics Co., Of Counsel to the firm of Ohlandt, Greeley, Ruggiero & Perle, LLP, and served as University
Patent Counsel and the founding Director of the Intellectual
Property Office of The Pennsylvania State University. His legal
practice focuses on client counseling, entrepreneurship, intellectual property
portfolio strategies, start-up and emerging business financing and
development issues, patent preparation and prosecution, opinions
(non-infringement, invalidity, and freedom to operate), licensing
and intellectual property transactions, with an experience in
chemical, biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, bio-medical, and
mechanical
technologies. Dr. Monahan has been practicing intellectual property
law for 20 years.

Charles F. Costello
Charles F. Costello, a
founding member of the firm, has extensive corporate experience in
intellectual property, having been a Patent Counsel for Wyeth and
BASF Corporation. While in these positions, his primary tasks were
directed to the protection and enhancement of the clients’ assets,
and included litigation and settlement of intellectual property
matters, interferences, reissue and reexamination applications, and
review of license and purchase agreements. Also, Mr. Costello has
coordinated international litigation, patent nullification and
oppositions. His areas of technical expertise include organic and
polymer chemistry, specifically in the area of pharmaceutical and
agricultural chemistry, vaccines, consumer products and surgical
devices. Mr. Costello is a graduate of Villanova University (B.S.)
and New England School of Law (J.D.). He is a member of the Bars of
Connecticut and Massachusetts, and the Court of Appeals for the
Federal Circuit, and is admitted to practice before the United
States Patent and Trademark Office.
